I work with teachers and museums to bring global climate change studies into classrooms and science museums. I am the Ice Planet Earth Project Leader.

Mark Fahnestock
Mark Fahnestock
I study the large ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica. I use information from satellites, and instruments and cameras placed on the ice. I am interested in learning more about rapid ice flow in glaciers that flow into the ocean, so that we may better anticipate future changes as the high latitudes warm. The flow of large glaciers will be the major contributor to sea level rise in the future.

I study water and how it moves from the air, to the land, through the rivers, and on to the sea. I am interested in how much water people have now and how that will change if the climate changes. I use computer models to help me in my work.

I am the director of the Arctic-CHAMP Science Management Office, also funded by NSF. I help coordinate 22 projects focusing on changes in the freshwater cycle in the Arctic. Collectively, these projects aim to document what changes are taking place in water in rivers, on land, in the air, and in the ocean.
